How the date is determined

The date follows the Gregorian calendar. It falls between 22 March and 25 April.
🕊 Orthodox Easter
The date follows the Julian Paschalion, converted to the modern calendar. In the 20th–21st centuries this is 4 April to 8 May.

How is the date of Easter determined?
Easter is the first Sunday after the first spring full moon (according to ecclesiastical tables, the Paschalion). Catholics and most Protestants use the Gregorian calendar, while Orthodox Christians use the Julian Paschalion, whose date is then converted to the modern calendar.
Why do Orthodox and Western Easter differ?
Because of different calendars and different tables of full moons. The Julian and Gregorian calendars are currently 13 days apart, so the dates may coincide or differ by 1, 4 or 5 weeks.
When do the dates coincide?
In the coming years the dates coincide in 2028, 2031, 2034, 2037, 2038 and 2041.
What are the earliest and latest dates of Easter?
Western Easter falls between 22 March and 25 April. Orthodox Easter, converted to the modern calendar, falls between 4 April and 8 May in the years 1900–2099.
When is Easter in Ukraine?
In Ukraine, Easter is celebrated according to the Julian Paschalion (together with the Orthodox churches), while Latin-rite Catholics follow the Gregorian one. The page shows both dates.
