FAQ
How do I convert a Gregorian date to the Hebrew calendar?
Pick Gregorian, enter the date and read the Hebrew date. A Jewish day begins at sunset, so tick “after sunset” for events in the evening.
Why can an Islamic date differ by a day?
Observation-based calendars depend on moon sighting and local rules. The civil calendar here is arithmetic, and Umm al-Qura is the Saudi official calendar, so they can differ by one or two days.
What is the difference between the Julian and Gregorian calendars?
The Gregorian reform of 1582 removed 10 days and changed the leap-year rule. Today the Julian date is 13 days behind the Gregorian one, which is why “Old Style” holidays fall later.
How accurate are the conversions?
Gregorian, Julian, Hebrew, Islamic (civil), Persian (arithmetic), Coptic, Ethiopian, Indian, Thai and Minguo use exact algorithms. Chinese, Japanese and Umm al-Qura dates come from your browser's data.
What is the Julian day number?
A continuous count of days used in astronomy and software, starting from 1 January 4713 BCE (Julian calendar) at noon.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
